Hey Everyone! I know a lot of you are waiting for my next update to “The Marcy Street Case Study” – and I promise it will be out in just a couple days. The only reason I haven’t posted yet is because I wanted to include some more photos, but need to get back inside!

In the meantime, I wanted to share that I finally – a month after moving into my new house -have 100% finished my first room of the house (If you don’t know about my new house I bought for my wife and I with no money down, click here to read the post). Let me explain: when I moved in, the house was about 80% finished with the remodeling, but time constraints forced me to move in before it was done.  If you’ve never lived in a construction zone before – don’t.

It’s not fun.

In fact, it’s the opposite of fun.

It’s stressful, irritating, and cumbersome.

So, to try to put some order to my otherwise unorganized life, I decided to work on one room at a time and work on nothing else until that room was 100% finished – beginning with my office (I need a place to write these articles, right?)

Thus, after two weeks of doing the finishing touches whenever I could find time,  I finally finished my office. Take a look!

My New Office

My New Office, Stylized by Instagram!

My favorite part has to be the “built in” bookcase (you can’t see it in the above photo, but you’ll see it below). I had actually been hauling around this large, heavy book shelf for years – from house to house – never really liking it. It was a gift from the in-laws, so dumping it wasn’t a real viable option. However, I finally discovered the perfect use for it. I simply built it into the wall, drywalled around it, and painted it “Espresso Black” to match the desk. While the job turned into a much bigger task than I imagined, the result was amazing!

Every Book I Own

They say you can learn a lot about a person by looking at their bookshelf. I aim to keep my life, and this blog, as much of an open book(see what I did there!?)  as possible so I want to give everyone a inside look at me, through a photo of every single book I own (less any eBooks I have on my Nook or on my Mac).

Click on the picture below to see a high-definition photo of my bookshelf, completely stocked. You should be able to read almost every title. Most of my real estate books are found in the upper right side, while my wife’s Christian fiction dominate much of the left.

Also, I wanted to let you guys know something else cool that’s happening. Hello Brandon – please tell me the twilight series belongs to your wife …? 🙂 – I see a lot of the same books I have and some I think I’ll be looking into …. great idea on the book case … and I love renovations and have lived in a couple of construction zones – one in particular was a mess … but I do still love renovations! Another great article from you – I always look forward to your emails and posts! Keep it up!

I just want to say thanks for your blog. I was really excited to attend the Webinar last night but had to miss it. It was a good reason though. I went to my first ever local real estate investor club meeting in part due to this blog saying how important this is. And it was a great meeting. It is one thing to read it on the internet, but it is another thing to see people who first got interested a few months ago actually making deals. I found your blog through John’s as I started with an interest in mobile homes (hopefully one day a park) and I appreciate the information you provide.

Hopefully if John does another one I will not miss it!

I have all the rooms tore up on my remold project and it is just too much. I need to focus on one room at a time and see results too.

It really is a good way to do things. It may not make the 100% most efficient use of your time, but the psychological factor is huge!

I don’t see anything I think is ridiculous. Spill the beans! I am intrigued by Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them though! Might have to check that one out.

Lol, Lies and the Lying Liars was an old Al Franken book I picked up at a dollar store (he was a Saturday Night Live guy who ended up running- and winning- the US Senate seat in Minnesota, my home state). It’s a super funny read, though I definitely differ on his politics often!
